Why now

It's not the job title that goes first — it's the old task list

Admin work is shifting fast. Repetitive data entry, standard emails, first drafts and simple summaries are increasingly things software and AI can carry. At the same time, organisations still need people who understand the information, catch the exception that breaks the pattern, keep agreements on track, and handle data with real care.

From

manual repetition, copying, searching, and drafting from scratch

To

framing the task, checking the output, coordinating the process, and advising clearly

Labour-market context: UWV, the Dutch public employment service, reports that routine administrative tasks are under growing pressure, while broader task ownership, digital skills and adaptability matter more than ever. Read the UWV analysis (Dutch).

Sound familiar?

You want to move forward — just not by blindly hitting the AI button

  • You already use ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini, but without a settled way of working
  • You want documents and emails done faster, without errors or losing your voice
  • You're not always sure what data is — and isn't — okay to put into an AI tool
  • You want to get stronger at scheduling, minutes, reporting and support work
  • You're looking for something concrete that makes your current role broader and more future-proof

What you build here isn't just tool knowledge — it's a professional way of working that keeps up as the tools keep changing.

Programme

From one-off AI help to a workflow you can rely on

You won't learn one piece of software by heart. You'll practise a fixed cycle instead: briefing well, supplying the right information, producing a usable first draft, checking it, refining it, and saving or sharing it responsibly.

1

AI basics, prompting and working safely

Understanding what generative AI does and doesn't do, writing clear instructions, judging sources, and handling personal and confidential data with care.

2

Business communication and correspondence

Drafting and editing emails, letters, replies, instructions and client communication with the right tone, context and a human final check.

3

Documents, formats and organising information

Turning notes into clear documents, developing fixed formats, summarising long pieces, and structuring information so it can actually be found again.

4

Scheduling, meetings and project support

Preparing agendas, capturing action points, building out schedules, flagging risks, and putting together progress overviews.

5

Excel, data and reporting

Asking the right questions about data, cleaning up tables, having formulas explained, analysing information, and writing management summaries — always checked against the source.

6

Automation, quality and final project

Turning recurring tasks into checklists, templates and simple workflows. You finish with a realistic office case and your own AI playbook.

The professional AI cycle

Four steps that stop speed from turning into sloppiness

STEP 01Brief

Set the goal, audience, tone, sources and constraints.

STEP 02Create

Use AI to produce a first draft, analysis or proposal.

STEP 03Check

Verify facts, figures, privacy, logic, style and completeness.

STEP 04Capture

Turn what worked into a reusable format or checklist.

Work and career development

For roles where organising, checking and communicating come together

This course isn't built around one narrow job title. It strengthens a broad set of skills useful in supporting and coordinating office roles — at companies, government bodies, schools and semi-public organisations alike.

Management Assistant

Support meetings, correspondence, planning and decision-making more effectively.

Office or Team Coordinator

Organise workflows, documents, agreements and information more intelligently.

Administrative Officer

Move from routine processing toward checking, oversight and quality.

Project Support Officer

Handle schedules, progress, reports, action lists and project communication.

HR or Customer Support

Handle queries, records and communication carefully and efficiently.

Planning and Secretarial Support

Keep capacity, agendas, rosters and exceptions clearly under control.

Job titles vary by organisation. UWV, the Dutch public employment service, emphasises that AI is changing task packages above all — and that targeted, personal training should match the skills someone actually needs in their own role.

Who it's for

Four kinds of people tend to show up here

The group stays small and mixed. An experienced secretary, an administrative officer and someone retraining all bring different cases into the room — but they're all working toward the same shift: from executing tasks to supporting and checking them more intelligently.

  • Administrative staff who want to broaden their role with current digital skills
  • Secretaries and management assistants who want to use AI professionally in communication and organisation
  • Project, HR and customer support staff who want to handle information, scheduling and reporting more efficiently
  • Career switchers and job seekers who want to pair office experience with demonstrable AI skills

Price, exam and diploma

One price for tuition, one for the exam — kept separate on purpose

Every course is priced the same way. Tuition and exam fees are split deliberately, so you can see exactly what you're paying for — and so the exam can be listed as its own line item in an application to an employer or UWV.

Tuition

€ 4,975
VAT-exempt · CRKBO-registered
  • 16 sessions of 2 hours, live online or in person in Amsterdam or The Hague
  • All course materials and required tools are included
  • Personal feedback on your own work, in a group of ten at most
  • A one-on-one intake beforehand to check your starting level and goals
  • Guidance building your portfolio as you go

Exam and diploma

€ 255
Billed separately from tuition
  • An independent examiner assesses your work and your portfolio presentation
  • Covers scheduling, running and grading the exam
  • Pass, and you receive the Art and the City diploma
  • Courses funded through UWV require this diploma
Resits are free
Why it's separate

The exam is more than a formality: an examiner is scheduled, your work is assessed independently, and the result is formally recorded. UWV wants that cost itemised on its own, which is why it isn't folded into tuition. Raise both figures with your UWV advisor so they land in the application together. Combined, the course comes to € 5,230.

Exam and diploma

You finish with a complete office case

Over the course, you build a portfolio: business correspondence, a document or reporting format, a schedule, a meeting workflow, a data or Excel assignment, quality checks, and your own prompt library.

For the exam, you work through a realistic assignment for an organisation or department. You show that you can apply AI purposefully, check its output, and handle sources, personal data and confidential information with care.

Pass, and you receive the AI for Office and Administration diploma. Without the exam, you receive a certificate of participation.

Proof of what you can do

FAQ

Good to know

How much time does the course take per week?

You have one fixed class on Tuesdays, plus practical assignments alongside it. Budget roughly three to five hours of independent work. There are no classes during scheduled holiday weeks, which is why the programme runs from 8 September 2026 through 23 February 2027.

Do I need prior experience with AI?

No. You start from the basics. Experience in office work, administration, secretarial support, scheduling, customer service or project support is useful, but not required. Language skills, accuracy, and a willingness to learn digitally matter more.

Do I need to be able to code?

No. This isn't a technical or programming course. You'll learn to use existing AI tools professionally within everyday office processes.

Which AI tools will I use?

You'll work with current text and office assistants — ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and the AI features available in Word, Excel, Outlook and similar software. The exact selection may change, since the field moves fast.

Are software subscriptions included in the price?

Not automatically. We use free versions or accounts you already have through work or personal use wherever possible. Before the start, you'll receive an overview of any software and costs you'll need.

Will I learn to work with Excel?

Yes, at a practical level. You'll learn to use AI to understand formulas, clean up tables, explore data and prepare reports. This isn't a full financial administration or advanced data-analyst course.

Does the course cover privacy and working safely?

Yes. You'll learn which personal and confidential data doesn't belong in public AI tools, how to anonymise information, and how to check outputs. The course doesn't replace legal or information-security advice tailored to a specific organisation.

Will I also learn automation?

You'll learn to turn recurring work into templates, checklists, prompt sequences and simple workflows. Complex technical automation and coding fall outside this course.

Does this course come with a diploma?

Yes. After the practical exam and presentation, a passing result earns you the AI for Office and Administration diploma. If you don't take the exam, you'll receive a certificate of participation instead.

Where are the classes held?

The course runs in Amsterdam, The Hague, or live online. The final format, location and class time are confirmed once you're placed in a group.

Can UWV or my employer fund this course?

In some cases, yes. UWV, your employer, or another fund makes the final funding decision. Art and the City can provide the quote, programme, learning goals, schedule and workload needed for the application.

Which roles is this course suited to?

Among others: administrative staff, secretaries, management assistants, office coordinators, project support officers, planners, and HR or customer support staff. The exact job title matters less than the kind of tasks you do — or want to move into.
